Chancellor Doug Jenkins ruled last week that Rogersville will not be required to pay the Hawkins County Election Commission’s $23,094 in legal fees for defending a lawsuit filed last year by the city and then filing a countersuit.
Rape of a child is a Class A felony punishable by 15-25 years if convicted. As of Monday, Zachary Gulley was being held in the Hawkins County Jail on $100,000 bond with an arraignment date in Criminal Court of April 26.

The first step toward bringing the Rogersville Water Department back into state compliance regarding its levels of disinfectant byproduct will be a study of the water system that will cost at least $49,725.
Staff from CVES and HES, as well as Special Education Supervisor Angela Jackson and her staff, were recognized by the Hawkins County Board of Education.

Hawkins County commissioners spent about a half hour discussing a health insurance benefit for sheriff's deputies they hope they'll never have to use, but there are still many questions to answer before a policy is approved.
