According to Barry Brickey, public information officer for the KFD, at around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, fire broke out in the ceiling and roof area near the front end of the McDonald's. The building was evacuated prior to the firefighters arrival and no injuries were reported.
Flames were showing through the roof when firefighters arrived on the scene and crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and suppress the heavy smoke, Brickey said.
Crews were on the scene for about two hours and the restaurant was reopen for business soon after. The incident is under investigation by the Kingsport Fire Marshall's office, Brickey said.
