"One Special Town ... Two Special Trees" was again the theme for this year's tree lighting event at the historic Sullivan County Courthouse in Blountville. The large tree is the county's community tree. A smaller tree, lighted in purple, honors victims of violence. The event was held Thursday, December 6, 2018.

Mark A. Harold, 20, of 419 Allen Drive, Apartment C 107, Kingsport, was taken into custody early Saturday, Dec. 1, by Mount Carmel officers. He was subsequently transported to the Kingsport Police Department, a Mount Carmel officer said.

Robert Wright Jr., 47, 5359 Bloomingdale Road, is charged with four counts attempted first-degree murder and four counts of aggravated assault. He allegedly drove his truck into a house in his neighborhood, causing a room to collapse while two adults and two children were inside the house.
