Girls golf: Bountiful’s Einerson wins 5A title; Davis 2nd, Ponich 3rd in 6A

SOUTH JORDAN — Bountiful’s Jobi Einerson shot a 74 for a two-day score of 148 and won the 5A girls golf individual 5A state championship by one shot against Corner Canyon’s Jamie Connell and Alta’s Cora Mickelsen (149).

Einerson was in second place yesterday, two shots behind Mickelsen, after carding a 74. Mickelsen followed her 72 with a 77 while Connell, in third after yesterday’s 76, shot 73 Tuesday.

Bountiful’s team finished second with a total score of 652 behind Corner Canyon’s first-place score of 615. Woods Cross finished sixth place as a team, three shots in front of Viewmont.


TAYLORSVILLE — Lone Peak beat Davis by 13 shots as the Knights took home the 6A girls golf state championship.

The Darts carded a 605 as a team while Lone Peak shot 592. As a team, Weber beat Northridge for sixth place by just five shots (697-702) while Fremont was eighth.

Davis’ Caylyn Ponich shot a 3-under 69 to finish in third place overall at 138, four shots out of first.

Davis’ Brooklyn Halliday carded a 72 to finish at 144 and in a three-way tie for eighth while Katelyn Day took ninth after shooting 77 a day after shooting 80.

Weber’s Alicia Littlefield surged up the leaderboard by shooting 75 Tuesday. She finished in a three-way tie for 10th place after yesterday’s round of 86 left her tied for 21st.

Northridge’s Abbi Cowan shot 80 on Tuesday for a two-day score of 163 and a 13th-place finish. Anastasia Godfrey shot Layton’s best two-day score of 164 after carding a 79 Tuesday to finish tied for 14th.

Sierra Wallace was the highest Fremont finisher with a two-day score of 172 to finish tied for 23rd.

Tess Blair of Bingham shot a two-day score of 134 and took first place overall.
