Robert D. Applonie celebrated his 85th birthday on January 12, 2018. His family gathered for a dinner on January 13, 2018, to celebrate his special day.

He is the son of Lawrence and Eva Applonie, the fifth of seven children and was raised in Riverdale, Utah.

Bob graduated from Weber High School, attended the University of Utah and graduated from Weber State College. He married Evelyn Fay Sears (Faye), on July 3, 1953, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have two children, Scott (Dona) Applonie and Jill (John) Detamore. He has been blessed with eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

When younger, Bob enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, golf and bowling and enjoys watching all sporting events. Bob joined the Army in 1953, serving until 1955, primarily stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He then worked for the Ogden Union Railway and Depot Company and Hill Air Force Base, retiring in 1984.

He and Faye were great supporters of Weber State football and basketball, attending games for many years. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling and attending grandchildren's numerous activities. Since retirement, they have lived in Scottsdale, Arizona, Garden City, St. George, and West Point, Utah.

His family and friends admire Bob's example of persistence and determination and wish him a Happy Birthday with many more to come!
