Prep Hoops Roundup: Layton Christian boys score 126 in region win

RIVERDALE — Layton Christian Academy outscored Utah Military Academy 76-16 in the first half en route a 126-26 win in Region 16 play Thursday.

Sano Gasana led all scorers with 18 points for LCA. Braxton Meah netted 14, Micah Petty and Jesus Tomasi each scored 13 and Sam Muller added 11 points for the Eagles. LCA’s reserves accounted for 63 points on the night.

Dante Huerta, James Summers and Jacob Ogden each scored eight points for UMA.

LCA’s 126 points ties for the fifth-most single-game points in Utah boys basketball history.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

JUAN DIEGO 44, BEN LOMOND 38

DRAPER — Ben Lomond led at Juan Diego 31-29 at the end of the third quarter, but the Soaring Eagle held the Scots to seven fourth-quarter points in the Region 11 contest.

Nicole Dominguez scored a game-high 18 for Ben Lomond.

RIDGELINE 57, BEAR RIVER 46

GARLAND — Bear River led 27-20 at the half, but the RiverHawks outscored the Bears 37-19 in the second half to grab the Region 12 road win.

McKenzie Bywater scored 14 points to lead Bear River. Natalie Cottle added 13 and Rachel Fronk netted 10.

MORGAN 58, SOUTH SUMMIT 46

MORGAN — Morgan outscored South Summit 21-10 in the third quarter to take control and grab the Region 13 victory.

Jaci Jensen led Morgan with 14 points. Marcie Stapley added 10 points and nine rebounds.

DUCHESNE 46, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 21

LAYTON — Layton Christian scored six first-half points in their Region 16 home loss to Duchesne.

Tess Henry led LCA with nine points and Danyale Thomas added eight.

NORTH SUMMIT 77, ST. JOSEPH 40

OGDEN — St. Joseph trailed North Summit 44-15 at the half on the way to the Region 16 home loss.

Virginia Tomon led St. Joseph with 20 points, 14 rebounds and two steals. Kathleen von Hoffman added five points, five rebounds and two assists.
